What is an abcedarian poem? Why do we write abcedarian poems?

An abcedarian poem is a poem with verses or words beginning with the successive letters of the alphabet. The first line could start with the first letter of the alphabet: A. Then, the following lines could start with B, C, F, H, K, M, etc. Here's a brief example, for illustrative purposes only:

A man runs
But
Can not
Find that which
He has lost:
Kind of in the dark-
Midnight of the soul.

An abcedarian poem is often used to help students learn the alphabet in a fun way.

ay-bee-see-DARE-ee-un.
